  • The Stripper Next Door

  • Emma Corbett aka “Suzie Q” was an awkward pale redhead with bad acne when she auditioned at a leading Sydney strip club at the tender age of 17. She took on the moniker ‘Suzie Q’ and went on to work in every possible aspect of the exotic dance industry – from gracing the pages of Penthouse Magazine, winning Miss Nude Australia and table dancing in the clubs of Paris and London to backyard bucks nights in the suburbs of Western Sydney. Emma writes in a completely forthright style, exposing the glamorous and not-so-glamorous sides of the business of getting naked for money.

An intelligent business person and property investor, Emma used the money she earned stripping to invest in real estate and also set up the largest pole dancing schools in Western Sydney and the Gold Coast where she taught the art of pole dancing to everyday women seeking something a little different to in their fitness regime. She herself became an elite level athlete – winning the Australian Pole Championships three times, representing Australia at the International Pole Championships and even making it to the finals of Australia’s Got Talent!

After an unexpected knee, then shoulder reconstruction brought her performing career to an abrupt halt, Emma felt the need to re-examine her life – like anyone whose identity is bound up in what they ‘do’, she had to discover who she was, when no longer ‘doing’. She happened across the practices of meditation and mindfulness and slowly began to undo the identity of ‘Suzie Q’ that she had built up over the years to re-discover the value of simply being.

Part titillating tale about what goes on at a Penthouse shoot or while performing at a Buck’s party and part reflection on identity and the nature of acceptance, The Wholesome Stripper is for anyone wants to know more about stripping, pole dancing… and meditation.
